| Bio: | This is the blog of Ada Milenkovic Brown, humorist and writer of fiction sometimes Southern and usually otherworldly. Ada began her career warping the minds of medical students at East Carolina University before devoting her energies to writing. The product of hostile (but just with each other) former Yugoslavians, she grew up in a trilingual household in Chicago, where she learned German slightly before she learned English, so that she suffers from an annoying urge to overcapitalize her Nouns. Her published humor includes an ersatz ad in a religious magazine for a liturgical line dance video and an essay proving unequivocally that monkeys can write Shakespeare. Her short fiction has appeared in Intergalactic Medicine Show, The Written Word, and The Five Stones. A long time Lewis Carroll geek, her name appears in a footnote in Martin Gardner's More Annotated Alice. The Coordinator of the Greenville Writer's Group, Ada is a graduate of Clarion West 2005 and the 2004 Orson Scott Card Literary Boot Camp. She is also a member of Codex Writers. In her free time she is a part-time adult Sunday School teacher, a tutor-trainer in Adult Literacy and English as a Second Language for Literacy Volunteers of America, and a singer/actress who performs in community choirs and musical theater. She and her husband have a daughter in college, a son in grad school, and a cat. Her username is a tribute to Lady Ada Byron, the Countess of Lovelace. (Alex, let's have famous Adas for $200.) "High quality written literature . . . ." ---Carole Ann Moleti, The Fix Short Fiction Review "Unique and engaging ...." ---Malon Edwards, Speculative Literature Foundation http://www.strangehorizons.com/reviews/2007/01/talking_back_ep.shtml "And yet, the letters which most attracted me were those to the unknown people, such as Nancy Jane Moore’s letter to Lula Mae Cravens, her grandmother’s best friend, or Ada Milenkovic Brown’s letter to Sofia, a very troubled woman." ---Maureen Kincaid Speller, Strange Horizons "It's just that when you read her work, even when it's funny, you know that she's not fucking around. She's not dicking around with a bunch of insecurity and slippery writing to try and hint at what her story is, or hide the story from you, but it's not plain and flat like a movie, it's all the complex and crazy stuff that we like in fiction. And that's why I love Ada Brown: because she's just not fucking around. You know, that should be her like motto or something; 'Ada Brown--not fucking around.'" ---Mischa DeNola | |||||
